Last year, during the 25th anniversary of this iconic series, Tony Hawk himself took to Instagram to reflect on the unprecedented cultural influence of the original game. «Exactly 25 years ago today,» he wrote, «the first Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was released.» His initial aim for the game was primarily geared towards skateboarders, but he had no inkling that it would resonate beyond a niche market and become an unprecedented hit. Some even argue that its success might have altered the trajectory of skateboarding’s popularity and possibly even the evolution of skate tricks.
The enhanced version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 in 2020 received acclaim for preserving the original gameplay while upgrading its graphics. If a remaster for 3 and 4 follows, it would maintain the nostalgic level design but incorporate recent technological advancements. Dropping Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 Remaster unexpectedly during the Xbox Showcase – an approach where a game is announced and released instantly – could replicate the surprise launches of games like Hi-Fi Rush, capitalizing on excitement without extensive promotional campaigns.
Based on rumors from insiders, comments by Jones, and Hawk’s anniversary considerations, it appears that the stage is being set for skateboarding enthusiasts. If this turns out to be true, the 2025 Showcase could potentially offer an exciting twist for skateboarders.
